Blog Stage Two

On January 3, 2018, R.G. Ratcliffe posted an article to texasmonthly.com titled ""Will Rap 4 Weed" and Other Independent Candidates for Governor You Probably Won’t Hear About Again in 2018". This seems to be a somewhat satirical article as Ratcliffe discusses the 70 independent candidates trying to run for governor back in November of 2018.
It’s actually very interesting to hear some of the details of how you can get elected to run as an independent candidate in Texas, and it sounds pretty hard. The biggest thing is you need a lot of signatures gained from petitions in order to do it. However, in the past it’s been easier for some very rich men to get a lot of signatures. Hmmmmm, I wonder how that happens.

The part of this article I find really entertaining is when Ratcliffe goes into a few of the independent candidates and how they are mainly focused on getting one thing accomplished, such as Yvette Gbalazeh who is highly focused on the legalization of marijuana. Far be it from me to put down someone’s dreams and goals but I’m not sure if anyone told her that there’s more to be done in that position than just legalizing your own needs.
